Favorite Superfoods to add to a smoothie

During the summer detox program, I encouraged the 25+ women who joined to start the day with a smoothie or a cleansing juice to alkalize the body, which will allow the body to assimilate vitamins and minerals more effectively and give tons of energy.

*You can add superfoods to any smoothie to give you more energy.*

These are my favorites!!

Coconut oil is saturated fat, but it is a medium-chain fatty acid, which the body digests not as fat but as pure energy. Coconut oil will speed up your metabolism and also contains lauric acid, which is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal. It also improves adrenal and thyroid health.
Wheatgrass is a great source of energy. Wheatgrass has 25% protein and is loaded with iron. This is an alkalizing superfood that contains antioxidants such as vitamins A, C, and E.
Spirulina is the richest source of protein, with 60% protein per serving. It is great for vegetarians. 1-2 tablespoons gives you B12 + B complex vitamins, iron, trace minerals, beta-carotenes, and gamma–linoleic acid.
Flax seeds are high in omega-3 fatty acids and rich in alpha linolenic acid (ALA). They also supply other nutrients such as manganese and magnesium and contain a lot of fiber (great for constipation issues).
Hemp seeds or hemp oil are loaded with aminos, vitamins, and minerals. Hemp seeds contain all the omega fatty acids you need for a healthy body:  3, 6, and 9. You only need 1 tablespoon per day to get your whole foods daily dose of omegas. With 5 grams of protein per tablespoon, hemp is also a great source of protein.
Chia seeds are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, plus manganese, calcium, and phosphorus. Just one ounce of chia seeds contains 11 grams of fiber, so they are wonderful for relieving constipation and improving heart health.
Bee pollen has 22 amino acids and is loaded with B vitamins, vitamin C, and vitamin E and also contains 35% protein and rutin, which prevents hemorrhoids.
Raw cacao – We could talk for hours about the benefits of raw cacao on an antioxidant level. Raw cacao is very high in magnesium, is loaded with fiber, and is a great source of natural iron.
